Module 3 - Material Selection Abstract

In this module the students will conduct material selection with a goal of reducing the environmental impact of a product while also meeting functional requirements and reducing material costs. Office furniture is presented as a case study, while the students apply the following techniques, to the product chosen at the beginning of the class

  • Weighted property index (WPI) method
    • Decision matrixes
      • Pair-wise comparison
      • Saaty’s Scale analysis
    • Application of WPI
    • Performance Indices
    • Sensitivity analysis
  • Cambridge Educational Software (CES Software)
